TM
The specter of a 70 foot long, two hundred thousand pound
shark opening its
mouth and exposing 200 - 6 in teeth in an opening large enough to swallow a pickup truck
is what prompted many of us to become interested
in Megalodon in the first place. These giant teeth are the evidence that such
a beast existed and that our imagination has not gotten the best of us. Teeth
like these are the rarest. And, because the larger the tooth, the smaller the
surface-area to volume ratio becomes...they are frequently the most damaged. Large
teeth with minimal damage are the rarest of megalodon teeth... and the most
expensive. Since this is just a hobby, I can't keep many of these on hand...
and when I do get one, I tend to wrap my finger around it in such a manner, even
my wife can't extract it. Nonetheless, the ones below are available...enjoy!
"Monster" Teeth (6" and/or 1 lb. Teeth) |
Photo | Size | Description | Status | Price |
155-471 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 6 1/16" (155mm) Weight: 1 lb 1oz-. (571g.) |
This monster is what is call a "dinner plate"...meaning it is not only long, it is wide..almost 5" wide! The serrations are very good right out to the tip which is also unusual for these monster teeth. Blade color is a dark grey green which looks almost black in inside lighting. The root is complete on the front but has an expansion crack evident in the photo. There is a small area of erosion on the back of the root. The bourlette is jet-black with dark brown stripes. There are some small areas of feeding wear near the tip. The condition of this tooth actually qualifies it as one of my #1 grade teeth, but I decided to keep all the monster teeth together. | SOLD | $1150 |
160-526 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 6 1/4" (160mm) Weight: 1 lb 3oz-. (526g.) |
This one is a monster BOTTOM TOOTH..complete with the bulbous root typical of teeth from that tooth placement. The tooth is chatoyant and serrated. The bourlette is black with brown stripes. Enamel is grey green. There are some small areas of erosion in the root, and a small area of enamel recession just below the bourlette... both are obvious from the photo. This is a Monster in every respect and remember, 200,000 lbs. of shark once carried this tooth in its mouth.! | SOLD | $760 |
159-543 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 6 1/4" (159mm) Weight: 1 lb 3oz. (543g.) |
Here is one which is sitting on my shelf in the center of the collection...and will remain there until someone buys it. I still enjoy picking up this tooth just to feel its heft and extremely rare size, look at the bite marks, beautiful enamel, serrations, and imagine a 65' shark biting his own tooth as he fed on giant whales during a feeding frenzy! This tooth looks like a grey-green winter sky with mottle marks resembling clouds. The bourlette is black and streaked with brown. The root is highly unusual in that there aren't the usual large expansion cracks common on monster teeth. The serrations are extremely sharp. There is an area of feeding damage along one side of the blade and right at the tip. There are two serrated bite marks on the blade face which add action and character to the tooth. This one truly represents what collecting megalodon teeth is all about! | FOR SALE | $1600 |
153-471 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 6" (159mm) Weight: 16.5. (471g.) |
This tooth has razor serrations! The root is exceptional for a monster with very few expansion cracks. The small chip at the tip and slight recession from the bourlette are evident in the pictures. The bourlette itself is ca. 50%. The blade is ca. 95% front and back. It is a wide tooth (ca. 4.5"). Color of the blade is gray-green with a few lighter areas and a few rust colored spots! This tooth is much better than the average 6" monster. | ON HOLD | $830 |
152-465 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 6" (159mm) Weight: 16.3oz. (465g.) |
I bought this tooth several years ago as my first 6" tooth. I have picked it up and rubbed the enamel hundreds of time, felt its heft, and attempted to imagine the shark which grew it. The crinkles along the side are an added bonus in this large tooth. There are additional photos of the crinkles in the "tooth terms" page if you would like to see more. The pathological enamel is rare...added to a rare size...and a rare condition. The tip is rounded; the serrations are relatively smooth, but you can still feel them. The blade color is aqua green...like water. There are no surprises not seen on the photo. Enjoy!! | FOR SALE | $490 |
