Some are recovered by digging directly from the rock matrix in banks and river bottoms (40-50 ft. deep in the current of dark alligator infested waters). These teeth are rarer but similar in condition to teeth dug from phosphate mines like Lee Creek (Aurora). With spectacularly sharp points and serrations…many are almost perfect approaching 99% completeness in all aspects. Because they have not spent time in the waters of the St. Mary’s, they tend to be silver/aqua/blue with dark bourlettes. The other type of St. Mary’s River teeth are recovered lying on the bottom of the river where they may have bathed for thousands of years in the brackish, dark, and tannic waters. There they take on the deep blues, rich browns, and mahogany colors typical of these teeth. It is the spectacular color, mottling, and gloss of these teeth that makes them so desirable. Frequently, even their bourlettes are multi-colored. Because they are collected from a very limited locale, teeth from the St. Mary’s may be very uniform in age and phenotype. The serrations on these teeth seem uniquely small and fine…more like velvet than the coarse or large serrations found on early megalodons. These are unique teeth collected from a small location. They have unusual colors and physical attributes produced by local conditions. The diver informs me that "when I was a kid, I could free-dive with a piece of chicken wire and bring up a sack full of teeth. Now I dive all day with SCUBA gear and find very few teeth" Better get one NOW before they disappear like teeth from other unique Megalodon collection areas.

Slant Height: 3 1/2" (89mm) Weight: 3.0oz.. (84g.) |
This is an example of a tooth that was found after it eroded from the matrix along the St.Mary's and has spent time enough in the river's dark tannic water to pick up the classically rich tones and mottling typical of these teeth. This tooth is serrated, the bourlette and root are complete and in good condition. This tooth was from the bottom of the shark's jaws and has the bulbous root typical of teeth from that position. | SOLD | $105 |

Slant Height: 3 9/16 Inches (91mm) Weight: 2.4Oz. (69g.) |
This tooth is ever so slightly dulled on the tip. Look at the photo to see how minimal this damage is. That behind us, the rest is all positive. The tooth has a beautiful blade which is a subtle mix of tans, olives, grays, and oranges...truly fantastic. The bourlette is tan, the root is 99%, and the serrations are razor sharp. This is a truly unusual tooth from a rare location...really what St. Mary's is about. | SOLD | $120 |
sm94-91 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 3 11/16In. (94mm) Weight: 3.2Oz. (91g.) |
This tooth has spent a little more time in the river than most of the others I have. You can see and feel the serrations. The tip is a little rounded (see photo). The root, bourlette, and blade are 95% or better. The tooth is blue with bronze St.Mary's highlights along the edges and it has some spots of black mottling. It is a solid tooth at a bargain because of relatively minor damage. | FOR SALE | $60 |
sm97-95 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 3 9/16 In (97mm) Weight: 3.3Oz. (95g.) |
Root, blade, bourlette, point ...all components 99%. The serrations are extremely sharp except for minor feeding damage on the left side (see the photo). The blade is black...with light gray-white mottling. The mottling looks ghostly in a dark sky. The root and bourlette are also black. Really nice tooth. | FOR SALE | $125 |

Slant Height: 3 13/16Inches (98mm) Weight: 3.4 Oz. (96g.) |
I'm fully aware that there is no such thing as a "perfect tooth". That said,it is really difficult to find somethin wrong with this tooth. The blade, bourlette, root, serrations are all 99% plus++. The blade is chatoyant, the point needle sharp. Bourlette is dark chocolate brown, blade is light blue-olive in the center and olive where it is chatoyant on the edges. Look at the photo; see if you can find something wrong here. I can't. | SOLD | $175 |
sm100-94 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 3 15/16 in. (100mm) Weight: 3.3 Oz. (94g.) |
This tooth was dug from the matrix by our friendly diver. He informs me that he will wear out a new pair of kevlar gloves any day he attempts to dig for these teeth beneath 50ft of black water. This is a grey-blue tooth with the edges of the blade mottled in black. Compounding the description is the fact that where it is mottled, it is also chatoyant. The bourlette is black and 99%. In fact all aspects of the tooth are 99% or better. A triple threat; rare condition, location, and appearance. | SOLD | $185 |
sm107-148 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 4 1/4 In. (107mm) Weight: 3.8Oz. (148g.) |
I have had a total of three of these teeth and
intended to keep them all...but my wife keeps reminding me that this hobby needs to
generate some income.
I have kept one and cried when the other left...will probably do that again when this
tooth leaves. These
teeth are beautiful mixes of blues, oranges, tans, olives, whites, and reds. A unique
feature of the St. Mary's teeth is that old oyster rings appear as "redish" circles
in the enamel. They sometimes overlap, and sometimes they are concentric. Look
closely along the sides of this tooth's photo. It
looks like a "party tooth". Even the bourlette is multi-colored. This one is
an anterior tooth from the bottom jaw... it has the extremely heavy roots typical
of teeth from that location. The serrations are sharp with two very small
dings. One is along the side, one on the tip. This tooth is reverse fanged and,
unusual for a shark, would be recurved into the shark's mouth. Look closely at this tooth. There isn't another like it on the web. |
SOLD | $320 |
sm116-201 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 4 9/16" (116mm) Weight: 7.1oz. (201g.) |
Classic St. Mary's! The blade is a rich orange/copper/brown with highlights formed by oyster stains on an extremely glossy blade. The serrations, blade, and bourlette are all 95%. The root is complete but has some roughness which is clearly seen in the photos. The bourlette color is dark brown/mahogany. This tooth is unusually solid, feeling heavy or dense in the hand. When these St. Mary's teeth are gone, it will be difficult to replace them. | SOLD | $290 |
sm122-184 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 4 3/4Inches (122mm) Weight: 6.4Oz. (184g.) |
This is a sharply serrated lateral. It is highly chatoyant. The bourlette is in good shape; root has one tiny chip in the left lobe. The blade is olive-tan with highlights of orange and mottling with smudges of black and brown. The photo is accurate. | FOR SALE | $290 |
sm123-223 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 4 13/16" (123mm) Weight: 7.9 oz. (223g.) |
Beautiful blade, bourlette, great serrations right out to the tip...this tooth was recovered outside of the matrix, but it wasn't lying there very long. The blade looks like grey "stratus" clouds on a cold North Dakota day. Both front and back have grey/dark-grey striations. The bourlette is broad and black. The root is smooth with no obvious pitting and has unusually small expansion cracks for a tooth this size. This tooth has beautiful shape and presentation. | SOLD | $305 |
sm133-246 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 5 3/16" (133mm) Weight: 8.6 oz. (246g.) |
Five inch teeth from the St. Mary's River are relatively rare compared to other locations. This 5+ incher weighs over half a pound. It has the classic, St. Mary's orange coloration with flecks of rust on the show front. The show back is mottled in black and has small rust colored oyster rings on the edges. The photo will show some feeding damage on one side and a small piece of fossilization damage on the other. The serrations are sharp; the tip, root, and mahogany colored bourlette are all in good shape. Because of these small damages (look at the photo) I was able to get this tooth from the diver at a savings. This tooth is a real bargain for an orange St. Mary's tooth at 5 3/16". | FOR SALE | $225 |
sm59-16 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 2 3/8" (59mm) Weight: oz. (16g.) |
Mako teeth from the St. Mary's River are relatively rare. I have a couple of them and when the last one sold immediately...I begged the diver for a few more. This one has true St. Mary's colors. The blade is olive with bronze, red, orange, and blue highlights. The edges and point are in good shape. There is a small area of errosion on the root evident from the photo. If this one sells quickly, I'm really going to have to start begging the diver. | FOR SALE | $46 |
sm55-16 Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: 2 1/8In. (55mm) Weight: Oz. (16g.) |
This is a jet black mako shark tooth from the St. Mary's. The photo reflects well its attributes. It is amazing how these teeth have picked up different colors over the millions of years since they left the original owner's mouth. Many teeth from St. Mary's have black mottling. Here is a tooth which absorbed, from its surrounding rock matrix, nothing but the chemical which produces that color. | SOLD | $30 |
Posterior Show "Front" Show "Back" |
Slant Height: ca. 2In. (ca. 58mm) Weight: Oz. (g.) |
Here are two small posterior teeth both with excellent serrations and in good shape. I put them on the page for those who don't have samples of these small teeth from the corner of megalodon's jaw in their collection. | FOR SALE | both for $30 |
